PART DEUX: BUSINESS OR BUZZYNESS?

Well, I’m still the intern at Focal Point, so my first blog post must have gone over alright with the FPM crew, or maybe they’re just impressed I have everyone’s coffee order down to the last pump of caramel . . .

Last post I said I thought I’d seen it all. I may have spoken too soon, so let me update you on all the FPM happenings since then. I’ll begin with the crew’s little business trip to the park to film the Summer Hours video. I would describe the trip to the park in detail, but I’m afraid my description of the 80’s attire, girl power and downright goofiness wouldn’t do the field day event justice. Instead, I’ll just let you watch it if you haven’t already.

I’m not sure how much was accomplished at the office the rest of the afternoon, as I headed home after lunch with a whole new perspective of the FPM crew. Don’t get me wrong, the FPM team plays hard, but works harder – which is why, I forgot to mention earlier, I order my coffee iced with soy and a vital shot of espresso.

It’s not easy buzzing with the busy bees here in the FPM hive, but now nicknamed the “coffee runner” I rely on my college running experience and that espresso shot to help me keep pace. So far my internship has been everything but the expected copy-making and file organizing, so here’s a quick look into my buzzy mornings at the office.

The Regular Routine

The first 15 minutes usually consist of sipping strong coffee with a daily dose of catching up with Kari on any overnight changes in the big world of fashion, celebrities and anything trending. Then, if not already in the middle of a project or task, I’ll consult the crew as to what’s on the agenda for the day.

It’s difficult to describe my typical workday at Focal Point because my responsibilities are so extensive and each day brings new challenges and experiences. A major plus to my internship is the opportunity to dabble a bit in all the happenings here. On any given day, I help:

  • Theresa with marketing research.
  • Mitch and Eric with film gripping.
  • Kari with advertisement placement strate
  • Derek with website content research.
  • Kati with advertisement confirmations, invoice reconciliations and any other projects where the multitasking master needs a helping hand.
  • And finally, I help Steve and Tom with satisfying their sweet teeth on Fridays.

It’s safe to say, I’m learning a lot, getting good experience and having fun doing it. I’m disappointed the end of my internship is nearing, but I’m trying to make the most of the remaining month before I head back to school.
