The Brief

In 2022, pickleball was formally adopted as the official sport of Washington State, and needless to say, the game as soared in popularity. Gyms and courts across the Pacific Northwest are now packed with avid players of all ages – prompting a group of enthusiasts from Burlington, WA to launch Playtime Pickleball Club. With an outpouring of anticipation for their new indoor pickleball facility, all they needed was a memorable brand to establish themselves as the face of pickleball in their northern Washington community.

The Challenge

As pickleball skyrocketed in popularity, dozens of niche pickleball brands popped up over that time, mostly in the retail space – custom paddles, balls and other gear. But that meant that our goal with the brand’s visual identity needed to stand out and connect with a growing pickleball audience. Our client at Playtime wanted something fun and youthful, but didn’t feel trendy or too geared toward a younger crowd, as pickleball is very popular among seniors and retirees. With that in mind, we accepted the challenge and got to work.

The Solution

Starting with a number of concepts that varied in simplicity, we tried to touch on all of the details they were looking for in the logo marks: options that included a paddle or ball, something that was athletic looking – variations on those themes. One of the concepts featured many of those elements and was the overwhelming favorite among the Playtime leadership team. It was sleek and gave vibes of a professional sports team – all while incorporating movement and dimension. After some subtle adjustments and dialing in color, our final brand mark was chosen. From there, we built out an extensive brand kit with several colorways to give Playtime a litany of options for merchandise and all of the places the logo would live on.

The Results

Playtime Pickleball Club opened in 2025 to a packed house and hasn’t slowed down since. The brand has been applied to a variety of apparel that they sell at the club, along with custom paddles, bags, and other accessories. The visual identity has received glowing feedback from clubgoers and Burlington community members and can be seen everywhere throughout their state-of-the-art facility – on banners and signage, photo step-and-repeat backdrop, retail displays and more. With memberships and daily visitors on the rise, Playtime Pickleball Club is poised for growth!
